Acne
Acne develops when the sebaceous glands produce more sebum and pores become clogged. Besides the skin itself, hormones, blood sugar and gut health often play a role – in adults, too.
Typical signs
Inflamed spots
especially chin, jaw, back
Cycle-related
flare-ups before your period
Oily skin
enlarged pores
Marks
redness, scars
My approach: I look at hormones, blood sugar and gut – for example with hormone or stool testing – and tailor nutrition and micronutrients accordingly.
Atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition with an impaired skin barrier. It usually comes in flare-ups – possible triggers include stress, allergens, climate or diet.
Typical signs
Severe itching
often at night
Dry skin
flaky, tight
Typical areas
elbow creases, backs of knees, face
Flare-ups
after stress or infections
My approach: Alongside dermatological treatment, I look for personal triggers and at the gut barrier, microbiome and nutrient status.
Eczema
Eczema is an umbrella term for inflammatory skin reactions – such as contact, hand or seborrhoeic eczema. It is often worth taking a close look at what keeps irritating the skin.
Typical signs
Redness & blisters
weeping or flaky
Itching & burning
on the affected areas
Common areas
hands, face, scalp
Recurring
after contact with triggers
My approach: Together we explore possible triggers and look at gut, liver and nutrient supply as part of the bigger picture.
